0-5 years of age

Nutrition, Chronic Disease, Physical Activity and Social & Emotional Well Being are the key areas in which we revolve our programs around for the 0-5 year age group.  Puntukurnu has huge support from World Vision to help us with the progress of the developmental milestones from infant through to preschool age children.

Healthy Kids Week
Puntukurnu Programs Manager, Sue Parker recently worked in partnership with Pilbara Population Health and created a program called  “Healthy Kids Week”
From the 6th of November 2010 for  2 weeks, they travelled to the local communities Jigalong, Parnngurr and Punmu. Kunawarritji children were also chartered to Punmu so they didn’t miss out.
This was a very successful 2 weeks with over 100 children joining in educational games, healthy food taste testing and lots more fun activities. The children really enjoyed learning the benefits of healthy eating and lifestyles and were enthusiastically telling their parents about what to have for tucker.

Taste Bubs
Sue Parker is also working on another program called “Taste Bubs”
This is an educational day for mums and bubs to get to together with the Health Promotion Officers in their communities and learn about baby nutrition.
They will be creating activities to cover many topics including; when to introduce solids, what solids to introduce & how to prepare their baby’s food.
Our aim is to not only educate the mothers on which foods are best for their babies, but also to help mothers  feel confident and motivated to continue the healthy feeding options for their babies.
This should be another successful day that we are very excited and enthusiastic about.
